This happened to me today - or I noticed it today - didn't get an email.
Flying SFO-LAX-RDU on 7/11 - LAX-RDU is a redeye and I specifically selected it because I want to get in to RDU at 6 am.
Today I discover that DL has rebooked me SFO-ATL-RDU arriving at 9 am. I had used an RUC and this change put me on a 763 SFO-ATL instead of the 738 LAX-RDU, but I need to be at RDU very early.
I looked and the original itin was available.
I called, took about 10 minutes to get the call back and got put back on my original flights. The agent did take some extra time to be sure that the LAX-RDU flight wasn't being cancelled. But the call took 31 minutes because it had to go to the reissue desk.
I'll keep watching because something makes me think this will happen again before I fly
