Hi duncfly,
first question would be if you are planning to travel in Y or C class. If it is Y class then pretty much the same applies than stated above by many other FT'ers. LH Y is just a poor product if compared to your other choice - namely SQ. In SQ Y you have much, much better IFE, decent seats (seat pitch is better on the SQ 777's vs. the SQ 747), good food for Y and very good service from what I have experienced. There is absolutely no reason to fly LH Y to SIN (on an award ticket !!!) if you can fly SQ - not even schedule as SQ has 2 daily flights out of FRA vs. 1 on LH - apart from wanting to cause some self-inflicted pain.
In C class it goes along the same line. If you want to sit in SQ J with Space Beds than that's what you have to do. Currently LH only operates 747's with the old LH C seat to SIN which is nowhere close to compare to SQ J. This assessment is based on the seats only and is not even considering the service factor which would put LH at an even greater disadvantage.

By the time you are going to start your trip in 2006 LH probably will have upgraded the aircrafts used for that route to the new LH C seat, so if you prefer that one than don't worry. (I still like the Space Bed better, but opinions differ)
As LH M&M will always try to book you first on their own metal (which makes sense for them) it is important to specifically request the SQ flights with SQ equipment if that is what you want. Not a must though if you are happy with what LH offers you on that route in regards to cabin comfort and service. It is going to be your choice, though; IMHO I would always go for SQ.
Cheers ...
