I was declined by Amex at a gas station several months ago and called Amex. They said I had two gas pruchased within 24 hours and that triggered the system. I pointed out that I was travelling and they said this was part of their antifraud detection, and when I was travelling I should call and inform them of the fact. In the future I will not use Amex more than one time every 24 hours for gas purchases.
Must be a US thing. Over in the UK I've had times when I have pucrhased petrol twice in about 5mins. The pumps automatically switch themselves off after 5mins of pumping and so I had to go in twice.......people who drive Jaguar XJs will probably know what I am talking about
