I have 3 (will be 4) 35k certificates to use, and am looking at a possible trip to San Diego over Christmas. I can either book the US Grant on points for 5 nights at reasonably good value, or use my certs at another property. I see availability for 3 nights at the Marriott Marquis at a PointSaver offpeak rate, or I can stay at one of the other cat 5 properties (it's off peak or standard for my dates). What would you recommend? I like higher end properties and have Platinum status so a FS property would be nice if they have good elite recognition. Recent renovation is a plus. I would be in San Diego to visit family, so proximity to tourist attractions is not a high priority. They live in the BayHo area so La Jolla is an option as well.

I understand from reading through this thread and the property threads that the US Grant is the only true luxury property. How much would I give up by going with the MMSD or a Westin over the US Grant? Not planning on driving, expect to use ride sharing (or family) to get around so the parking fees are not a big concern.
