A very odd hotel. Be aware that there are two different lobbies and two entirely separate buildings, about a half-block apart. There is road construction at the first entrance which, combined with our unfamiliarity with the area had us going to the second building instead. Once there found out that yes, we were supposed to go to the first building. So, around the block we go, squeezing in to the forecourt area. Got bell/valet help and went inside. We had arrived about 2:30 pm and it turns out our room was not available. The FDC did some looking around and found a balcony room (we had just booked riverview) that was available. But in the time she found it and could actually get the system to do it, that room went away . So, she offered us a balcony room in the other building (yes, the one we originally stopped at) and we took it as an upgrade. Was told that we would get a call/text when it was ready.
While waiting, we went outside along the river and had a beverage and some nibbles. Nice setting. Good food and beverages. Then we walked along the river down towards the Hyatt and poked our heads in some of the shops along the way. At that point we were tired and just wanted to relax in our room. But we hadn't got a room ready notice. We decided we would just sit in the lobby to await the notice. When none came by 4:10, we went up to the desk to ask what the story was. This FDC checked and found that the room had just become available and processed our tickets. We told her that our luggage was with the valets in the first building and she said it would be sent up shortly. Great. So, we go to the room and find that shortly really meant it was already in the room. Who knows how long the room had actually been ready? Anyhow, the room is...odd. The balcony is tiny and partially blocked by a coffee/icecream shop on the river walk. There is also no chairs out there so use of the balcony for anything is pretty much just to poke your head out for a few minutes. Inside the room (a King bed as requested) the lighting is really odd and it took some time to figure out what controls what. The bathroom is closed off by double doors with two light switches on the outside. One switch controls the overhead lights in the shower, main bathroom and the separate toilet room. We like to have a nightlight in the bathroom for those middle of the night calls of nature. But there's no outlet in the actual toilet room So you need to leave the lights in the main part of the bathroom on during the night. There's also no hook or shelf in the toilet room.
Some plus things about the room. There is a nice little fridge and the usual marriott coffee maker. The electrical connections for phones, etc are abundant including a very nice setup on the nightstands with the outlets inside the top draw and a small cutout to feed through if you want your device on the top instead of in the draw.
One other thing of note, witch may not be an issue for folks visiting several months from now. They are currently dredging the Savannah River right in front of the hotel and the operation is a bit noisy. Overall, we'll go back to our standby, the FS Marriott, on our next visit.
