Speaking from personal observation there seems to be some screeners that insist that you remove the shoes. This is not the case and if you dont, you would get secondary screening. If you have shoes that dont fit the criteria then dont take them off. When you get sent down for secondary, complain to a supervisor about it. Mention accountability. Say that they are giving TSA a bad reputation but be sure that your shoes dont fit the criteria before you do this. One of our screeners went through New Orleans the other day and ran into this. Ended up badging the screener on duty and getting a supervisor ot intervene.
