To me it wouldn't be worth it...not sure where the RER stops in relation to the HR (where I stayed a couple years ago), but it's not walkable or the like. And the bus/cab ride into the city is always pretty brutal once you hit the merge w/the Peripherique.
I personally would just cough up extra points to be in the heart of Paris...you would want to make the most of that trip.
I think the RER goes into the airport terminal so then you would have to take the airport shuttle from the airport to the HR CDG at the beginning and ending of each day. That would get old real fast. A taxi/uber ride would cost you at least 50 euro one-way so every day you be spending 100 extra just on transportation, why not spend that on the hotel room in the city and enjoy more time in the city itself rather than shuttling back and forth. I took the RER once from the city to the airport, as I recall it took about 1 hour. That back and forth time everyday would become tiresome.
