Just to set expectations, the Sunborn is nice, but nothing special. The HFP article is very accurate in that it is quite underwhelming in many respects, but it is nevertheless a comfortable place to stay (I am there now). The rooms are small although they contain a fair bit of bling. Views are sea view (ie. runway and oil refinery in the distance) or marina view (ie. Heineken sports bar and casino next door).
The Rock and the Eliott (which the HFP article fails to mention!) both compare very favourably to the Sunborn. On balance I prefer the Eliott, especially the rooms with terraces and views at the top.
The Eliott has better room size, more comfortable beds and more comfort in the room generally, and less high tech gadgetry than the Sunborn (I couldn't work out how the alarm worked and for some reason the corridor lights turned on by themselves at 0630), the Eliott has a MUCH better gym, and is in a better location for the old town.
The Sunborn is better if you like bling. And white plastic. The restaurant is much bigger and better. The pool is laughable (much smaller than even the Eliott's), the sundeck is crowded, the gym is dark and underequipped. The location is good if you want to be in Ocean Village.
But both (and the Rock) are very pleasant for a few night away. Or if here in business.
