Involuntary Downgrade Options

Apologies to the moderators if this belongs in another thread but I couldn’t decide which part of the issue is the salient point (I don’t think it is wholly part of the 50% thread). We booked an F return LHR-ORD reward flight in the 50% sale. Our original flights were cancelled and we were able to rebook to new dates of our choice through You First without any drama (there was no need to find reward availability). We have now been contacted by BA to say our new outbound flights have been downgraded to J for “operational reasons” (a dummy booking shows it is now an A-350) I believe we could request an alternative date when F is available but would the downgrade be sufficient reason to completely rebook again within original ticket validity (pushing the dates out may give us a greater chance of being allowed into the US) or was the original rebooking a one off? If rebooking again is not an option so we did request a change of outbound date to the first available F date, would we be able to extend the return flight by the same amount of time to avoid curtailing the trip? Failing either of the above options, would the downgrade be sufficient reason to cancel without having to pay a fee?
