Called today about reservations for some family members for 7/4. Initially got the "if you aren't traveling within the next 72 hours, call back" message, and then got an estimate wait time of 1hr 7 minutes to 1 hr 27 min. While I was leaving the request to call back, I got a call from American Airlines stating they were taking the call back system down for maintenance and then it hung up on me. I called back and this time the estimate was 1hr 40 minutes, and while leaving the request it told me I was already in the queue, so the previous attempt had worked despite the issue above. I got the call back about 5 minutes later, got a fantastic agent who took care of everything, and was done and off the phone in less than 10 minutes.
