You can. You can go to the AA website and when you "Choose Seats" you will be given the up-sell for the various Main Cabin Extra options. MCE seats provide more legroom. Beware the difference between MCE seats and the "preferred" seats are nothing more than regular coach seats near the front of the cabin. Not worth it IMO.

Also, if you book a AA award flight using BA Avios you may only see your BA record locator. You will need your AA record locator to easily navigate the AA website - you may need to call in and inquire to get the AA PNR.
