This week I had good luck using Twitter to have Hertz update my account to accurately reflect my PC status, so I thought I'd take a stab at using Twitter to "fix" my reservation. After a back-and-forth today, I don't think I'm any less confused:
Me: I have a reservation for the Maui Airport (OGG) for September. Delta just changed my arriving flight and I now arrive 1.5 hours later. Can I update my flight arrival information so that I don't lose my vehicle and/or have my reservation cancelled?
Hertz: Can I have your new arrival time and reservation number
Me: My reservation number is ____. I now arrive on Delta Flight ___ at 6:39pm (still on September 1).
Hertz: Your rental vehicle will be held for up to 2 hours after the reserved time so you should still be good to go.
Me: Well, with the COVID procedures we have to go through upon landing in Hawaii, I’m not sure we’ll get to the rental counter within 2 hours after the reserved time. Is there anything I can do to protect my reservation?
Hertz: I can push your pickup time an hours [sic] but it seems the same car class wont be available at that time of pickup.
Me: It doesn’t make sense to me that the specific group would be available at 5:00 but not 2 hours later.
Me: How late can you push my pickup time and still ensure that same car class (Small Luxury SUV Group H4) will be available? Thirty minutes (5:30)? Forty-five minutes (5:45)?
Me: If the vehicle is held for two hours, even a 30-45 minute change to my pickup time should be sufficient
Hertz: Yes, your vehicle should be held for the grace period, when a location is low on fleet the system does not allow changes to be made to any reservations.
- I'm not sure how, if I have a specific class reserved for 5:00, it would not be available at 7:00. It's not like there's a different reservation at 7:00 that's going to take the last vehicle in that class since I would've, theoretically, already taken that vehicle.
- I feel like they leave themselves a lot of wiggle room when they say "your vehicle should be held for the grace period." That's not reassuring.
- I'd just adjust the reservation myself, but I assume that will jack up the rental rate significantly. Can I go on the website and modify my reservation to see what the new rate would be without clicking "confirm" and losing my current rate?
