We just flew JNB-ADD-ORD on ET in business. Previously we had transited through ADD a couple of times and I completely agree with the posts immediately preceding mine in the criticism of the old terminal. My wife referred to the old ET terminal at ADD as "that 3rd world bus station". Having seen 3rd world bus stations personally, it is not a fair comparison. But it was not on my list f preferred transit airports.

My wife and and were pleasantly surprised with the new terminal and the new Cloud 9 lounge. The transit security was effortless. We easily found priority line for Star Alliance elites and business class passengers all the way on the left as noted above. We were through security and in the lounge within 10 minutes of arrival at the gate.

The new Cloud 9 lounge is large and clean. There was a large and varied hot food service buffet. We only had about 30 minutes, so I didn't sample anything but the dishes I saw looked appetising (I was particularly interested in the herbed lamb chops as they seemed to be the loin chops). The bathrooms were clean but you had to be careful to make sure that a given toilet stall had toilet paper. It looked like the showers were open as well. We got through the secondary security for the US and Canada pretty quickly. I did not notice a priority security line there. But I could have missed it.

We would still prefer to transit through IST, DOH, etc for our trips to southern Africa. But if flying ET were the more convenient/lower cost option, I would book it without a second thought.
