Tipping

Tipping is not expected at Playa/Hyatt properties, the employees who take care of you are truly appreciative of a few bucks here and there. Our plan when we go to these resorts is to bring approximately $25/day, divided out into $1s and $5s. We usually end up with a bit of change left at the end of the trip, especially since we're not big drinkers, but that seems to feel about right. $3-6 for meals, dependingon service, $1 per drink, and something for the butler and housekeeping staff.

Housekeeping - $10/day during the day, $5/day for evening service while at dinner (we've stayed in a 1 bedroom suite though, so it would be less for the standard junior suite)
Breakfast - $5-$10/day
Lunch - $5-$10/day
Dinner - $10-$20/day
Drinks - $1/drink
Butler - $10-$20/day
Bellmen - $20/stay
Driver to/from airport - $10 each way

One of the activities employees took my wife and kids out on a Hobie Cat (small sailing catamaran), so tip there, and miscellaneous tips for other employee assistance, including at the airport and such.

Then if you do excursions, don't forget tips for those folks.

There is no ATM at the hotel, so you need to bring the cash you need! We had done $100/day our first two trips but that cut it too close so I brought $150/day the last trip and had a more comfortable amount at the end. But maybe we went a little overboard, but especially during our last two Covid-times trips, we wanted to err on the side of over-tipping.

Interesting reading here. Although, 150$/day seems extremely high to me. I do also tip generously (in my mind), but this seems a lot considering it is included at the Ziva/Zilara's. I'm also unsure if over-tipping is wise, as it will raise expecations on other guests and tips should be inline with the local salary ranges as well.
