The apparently new Ritz there used to be a CY and had really good food. I was going to suggest the Intercontinental if you had IHG points, but that's now a Sonesta. Man, lots of stuff has changed since I was there 2 years ago.
Yes, and some things haven't changed much-- and I STILL loved Puerto Rico, so it's not about fabulous hotel stays-- I just have a hard time blowing my entire HHonors account on a lackluster experience, OR hate blowing $350/night after taxes (La Concha) on said lackluster experience.
Another alternative we have is just going to Luquillo or the west coast and chilling at a 2* hotel for around $100 a night. BUT rental cars are also an issue-- more than $100/day.
