If I add another day and return a day early I assume they will just take the car anyways. The rates are actually pretty cheap so it won’t hurt my feelings if they charge me for the extra day that I am not using.
I've seen this a few times lately. I really doubt it's the capacity on the return date (to store the cars). More likely: They only expect to have a few cars available during your rental period. More likely: they'd rather rent to someone for 15 days than someone who wants it for 1 day. It's not a bad business practice, but easy to get around. You just have to make sure that you don't violate the rate terms. On step 3 of the reservation process on their website, image below, there should be rate terms (that I circled in red). If you don't meet those terms (days required, Saturday night keep, etc), then they will recalculate the rate and you're at their mercy. As long as you stay within the terms, they'll still charge you the same daily/hourly/weekly rate, just for the reduced period that you have the vehicle.
