personally, i think that conrad and WA are on the list since both resorts have taken a very conservative policy and neither resorts are currently allowing split stays. so to make things easier for everyone, they are just permanently on the list for the time being until policy is once again adjusted by hilton and both resorts are once again able to accept split stays.

i’ve been keeping a close eye on the HPA list since it was introduced in mid december (did a little reporting on it, but have since stopped) and can say that on average resorts were on the list for ~2-3 days. rarely, there were instance where resorts spent 1+ month on the list (kihavah, moofushi, cocoon, olhuveli, etc) but all these resorts reported massive outbreaks in the realm of 100+ cases which is obviously not the case at either WA or CRI... so something isn’t adding up here!

also.. and this may be of interest for anyone reading this... being on the contact tracing list could potentially have nothing to do with anyone having reported a case on the resort. as some of you may know, maldives does very strict contact tracing in general. i will use an example that i was told about firsthand by resort worker.

take shared seaplanes, for example. if individual A going to resort A is on a shared seaplane with individual B going to resort B, and individual B tests positive a few days after arriving to resort B, both resorts A and B would go into contact tracing status for a few days until individual A and all of A’s contact (butler, masseuse, family, waiter, etc) are tested and confirmed negative or positive. when contact tracing is done, both resorts are removed from the list. regardless of whether A ended up being positive or not. same thing with resort B.

so, it’s actually very likely that many resorts not on the HPA list have positive cases... it’s just that contact tracing is done, all positive individuals have been isolated, and split stays are once again allowed.

is it a stupid system? yes... and i hope HPA changes policy soon since the current one split stays a complete PITA. especially for vaccinated tourists!
Can someone show me where WA Maldives policy of not allowing non-split stays physically is? I think I remember seeing it mentioned awhile ago but just haven't actually seen it. Our current itinerary in September is arrive in Male, go to the Intercontinental Maldives for 4 nights, go back to Male and immediately transfer to the WA Maldives for 5 nights and then depart....it's starting to sound like this may not be allowed. I looked at the contact tracing list and do not see the Intercontinental on it. According to the Maldives tourism website, it says that split stays are allowed if you receive approval. Thanks!
