Vaccine rate is good but the people quoted in the article seem to be implying that it was really no dose younger people where transmission is happening. One hospitalization.
Despites the sharp increase in infections there is currently only one person with Covid-19 in hospital in Cornwall.
However, Malcom Bell,
chief executive of Visit Cornwall, pointed to a more immediate issue that is already leading to cancelled holidays bookings in the council.
“We’ve already seen a number of hotel closures due to staff getting the virus and others having to self-isolate as a result,” said Mr Bell. “The typical hospitality worker is in their twenties and hasn’t been vaccinated yet. The infections are very much concentrated in the younger age groups and this is causing a number of temporary closures of hotels, bars and restaurants.
“Even if people are able to come to Cornwall, they may well have to have a picnic lunch as staffing levels are so low due to a lack of workers and Covid infections among those that remain that hospitality businesses are just unable to open for lunch servings.”
A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “We are aware of an increase in reported Covid cases in Cornwall, in line with increases in case numbers in many parts of the UK. All attendees of the G7 Summit were tested before arriving in Cornwall and regularly throughout the Summit. We are not aware of any cases of transmission from delegates to local residents but will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days and weeks.”
