Is there any reason to be surprised? Marriott is cost-cutting across the board.
And if you are a Plat / Tit staying at a Courtyard with such weak benefits in the first place, well you can only really blame yourself... (I can recall perhaps 2 Courtyard stays out of 500+ nights...)
