Checked all of my Southwest's 50% fare bookings for Fall and compared it with AS fares. AS has matched only a small portion of their flights (eg. mostly early morning, or late night) even when some of the midday flights (not matched) are completely empty. AS revenue management department definitely has placed a cap on flights with this sale. Southwest wins most of my Fall schedule bookings.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that AS matched the WN fares for MCI-PDX basically every day of the week, even though WN is only flying the route on Saturdays during the promotional period. I booked it for October ($107 main cabin) on a date when there was no WN flight and taking a circuitous 5-hour journey through some other WN city would have cost $200+.
The WN forum believes that they're going to drop another fare sale for 11/4 - 12/16, so maybe more opportunities for AS fans to find cheap fares for those dates soon.
