Just for fun, when I check schedules for MSP-PSP for tomorrow (not the OP's city pair, but I'm curious) I see three flights (spaced throughout the day, some of which give a choice of flights departing MSP) from SLC to PSP and one connection through SEA. Overall, there are six itineraries with one stop and eight with two stops (all through SLC). No LAX-PSP segment appears in any of the choices.
