When you're promised a discount code that never appears
We were booked EUG-PDX-OGG and would join our kids on the plane PDX-OGG. Well it seems AS has discontinued all flights from EUG-PDX, so they wanted to put us on a EUG-SEA-OGG alternative, which we didn't want because of the kids (being able to pay for their stuff on board, getting in at the same time for rental car convenience, etc., just the joy of watching the grandkids on the flight and arrival) - anyway, AS then said we could fly the day before EUG-SEA-PDX, then stay overnight at our expense and be on the PDX flight with everyone the next day.
We said it would be easier for us to drive (much shorter timewise).
The agent THEN says "let me see if I can get you some miles back since you're not using the connection" - he comes back and says "Can't do that because it was priced (mileage) as a through fare, but I CAN give you a $25 pp discount each way"
We said fine.
Well, it's been several days and the discount has not appeared (compared to a recent discount we got for some lost luggage that appeared within hours).
Could a supervisor somewhere along the way have said "nope, can't do that". Should they have told us? Should I call and ask (I'm sure anyone answering the phone would have no clue - or would they?).
Any advice?
