I was lucky to Lufthansa upgrade with lifemiles from E to bussiness class.
My trip was initially booked in N (cheap premium economy - LAX - FRA - WRO for $330 - yes I loved 2020).
After schedule change Lufthansa suddenly put my booking into E and Lifemiles had a 300% bonus on buying miles so I literally did upgrade to business class for $300.
But anyway most of the time upgrading with miles is a poor deal a better to book it straight with miless in bussiness.

We have experienced that probably 90% of SAUA attempts fail, either because upgrade space was not opened, or because
different airlines computers do not communicate properly about these upgrades.
You are probably better off buying a discounted Z or P fare instead of buying a higher priced Y fare and then playing upgrade lottery.
