I know all of us wants to upgrade to business class when traveling. I’m booking a round trip ticket from LAX to FRA this summer, LH operated non-stop flights.
I would like to book the economy class, then use one of the SA programs upgrade to business class. I understand that I’d have to book Y, B, which could make the ticket upgradable. I also see some airlines made other booking classes also upgradable, e.g.:
ANA could upgrade Y, B, E, G on LH tickets
Turkish could upgrade Y, B, E, G on LH tickets
United could upgrade Y, B, J, E, G, M and U class on LH tickets
I’m sure there are more examples. Which made me feel that each airlines has their own rules to upgrade the Star Alliance tickets. So my question is if I book the eligible class, let’s say Y, B, E, G (from my understanding, these booking classes are upgradable for all the SA airlines, if not, please tell), which partner airlines could upgrade my tickets but using the least miles?
I have Amex and Chase points that could easily transfer to some SA airlines, if necessary. Thank you.
