I apologize for jumping to the conclusion that you intended to carry on a conversation. If you can get that to work, I can't see why anyone would object.

In an emergency situation, I suspect that most people would be understanding. That's very different than listening to four hours of sales calls.
But, again, (a) these sites may simply be blocked; (b) if they're not blocked, they may not work reliably enough to be useful. Even if you're not competing with a bandwidth hog trying to download a huge amount of data, I'd say that I've lost connectivity at least once on at least 50% of my flights.
