what is the correct earning rate meant to be out of curiosity?
It's normally 10 points per dollar. Since we have Diamond status through the Aspire card, that adds an additional 10 points per dollar bonus. At the time we stayed, there was a double points promo going on as well. So we earned a total 30 points per dollar.
It helped too that we had the Amex Aspire Card, which added another 14 points per dollar to the entire bill, including taxes and fees and transportation. That was around 150K+ points on top of the 191K for our stay.
