Is Killington worth a visit or would we be better to drive elsewhere?
Killington is less compact and less of a "Town" than Stowe or Woodstock. It's really set-up as a winter destination. Hiking Killington/Pico is a nice hike and the Inn at Long Trail (rt. 4 at base of Pico) is a nice place to get a beer after the hike. Woodstock is a very classic VT town that's worth a look. One of my favorite courthouses- classic old brick in the center of Town. Woodstock farmer's market is very nice (Fri-Sat-Sun in summers).

Don't know what sort of time you'll have but it's a pretty easy drive on 89 to Stowe/Waterbury and a nice drive up 91 to Greensboro and Barton and the Northeast kingdom. Greensboro has the best brewery in America (Hill Farmstead) and is very much the Vermont you imagine - rolling green hills and pasture land. Lake Willoboughy is a little further up 91 but very very beautiful. Long lake tucked into a big gorge. Always cold and crystal clear.
