what kind of test is performed at the resort for return to the US? Is it the painful and invasive nasal swab?

Once at the Conrad, the hotel performs a PCR test on site so the question of whether or an antigen test would work is sort of moot, the hotel will provide you with a PCR test which is accepted everywhere.
I am at the resort now but I am not sure they would tell me if anyone were quarantined. It is incredibly empty right now and all staff are fully vaccinated. You'd have to be trying really hard to catch covid here. One island is totally closed and you can go all day without seeing anyone except at breakfast and happy hour. If you pick the right restaurant you can have the whole place to yourself, aside from the staff.
