For teens in the wine region there are lots of 'active' activities you could mix in with a nice lunch (tree-top / ziplines, mountain biking, hiking, horse riding) or do a bike tour of a few vineyards, or spend some time in Stellenbosch town (a University town so lots of nice shops etc), there are numerous markets in summer but I am not sure in winter, or there is a motor museum at Franschhoek. Although I believe the Jonkershoek nature reserve is closed because of fires, you would have to see if open by July.
Some good suggestions. Actually looking at one of the ebike wine tours in lieu of a driver... will be a good mix of activity to keep the kids engaged while also seeing the scenery and some wineries.
