Interesting, my last 4 rentals have been from DTW, but I only got the email for 2 of them. Didn’t notice that before. Neither email has the text about choosing a lower tier car.
I think it matters how you book, the two I got emails for, I booked directly with Hertz, while the other 2 I booked with Priceline via AutoSlash. We’ll see if I get one for SAN (booked through SAP Concur).
this is off topic, but DTW certainly is some special place. All my reservations were with hertz directly. I started renting from this place from last year and my reservations included C, F, Q4, S, L, not a single time did they bother send me a carfirmation email, and once when I had an S reservation and they didn’t have any so they just didn’t put my name on the board instead of ‘see desk’. More annoying is that there’re always some garbage I could find inside this place’s cars, varying from an almost brand new outback to a more than 30k impala. Cars from other locations never had a even close problem. But back on topic this location does allow you to take anything from anywhere, although they usually put whatever nice things in PC only
