I rented a car from OAK on Saturday and, faced with the same situation as LJ7006, I took a mid-size car from the Five Star section, with no issues. I had actually reserved an "(E6) Ford Fusion Hybrid o similar", which was cheaper than an intermediate.

In general I have pretty good experiences at that airport, both in terms of selection and service, but this was my first rental there since October.
