We need to stay in the transit area for this to work, but my understanding is that the Frankfurt A gates serve Schengen departures. Can non-Schengen arrivals to A transit to Z without passport control?
UA flights do not arrive at A gates which are Schengen gates. UA refers to Z gates where their flights arrive as A gates (they are actually the same gate positions; Z gates are immediately above A gates with the same gate number). If your SOF flight departs from a Z gate you can remain in the same concourse where you arrive and go to your departure gate without having to clear security or passport control. If your SOF flight departs from a B gate you will have to clear transfer security but you can still move from Z to B without having to enter Germany/Schengen.
