Fortunately, they have nonstop flights from the US to China, which is what the OP wants to accomplish. As a fellow Shanghai based traveler, I'd rule out CA because it only flies to Beijing from the US (I've heard that they make you do your first 3 days of quarantine up there). In addition to MU, AA, DL, and UA all fly from the US to Shanghai. Their ICN stops don't count as transit, but I'd try my best to avoid them. AA and UA are supposedly dropping them in July, and I assume DL will follow suit. That having been said, I booked AA PVG-DFW for July 2 today and the ICN stop still shows. I'm willing to endure it this time because MU has been cancelling flights with stunning regularity, and was nearly double the price.
