For reference, I have 4 US credit cards with annual fees in the $500 range, and only one of them has raised numbers. I can't imagine any rental car agency not accepting the Amex Platinum or CSR.
My guess would be that term was written 20 years ago and just never removed.
That would be my guess as well. One of the rental co's was a "bottom feeder " one, the type that doesn't even accept AMEX.
I can see they are not interested in prepaid credit cards and the like. Oh well, I will be sure to bring a few credit cards with me, one of which will be "old fashioned). PS-this was searching for cars on booking.com
