I happened to be shopping for a car rental in Faro, Portugal and happened to read this in the fine print of a number of rental companies (Alamo, Enterprise, another no name one etc)
So, I am wondering if this TD card would actually be accepted or not.
Generally, that means they're not doing online verification of funds (i.e. one of the old imprinter machines). I haven't seen any "real" business not accept those in many years though, since everyone and their dog has internet access.
For reference, I have 4 US credit cards with annual fees in the $500 range, and only one of them has raised numbers. I can't imagine any rental car agency not accepting the Amex Platinum or CSR.
My guess would be that term was written 20 years ago and just never removed.
