Yep, I understand that. It's very hard to gain status when you do not fly for work, and are purely a leisure traveller.
Also just a regular 'Joe' who doesn't have one of those money trees in the backyard.
Not all of us are 'frequent flyers', as per the definition.
Qantas has clearly realised this, and implemented the Qantas Points Club/Premium. Probably to try and cash in on the suckers like me. In reality, they couldn't care less about me.

Agreed the J award ticket had no standing, and that was evident when I finally spoke to an agent. I was not able to 'reserve' a bassinet seat, and was told it was 'first in' basis. I have set a reminder 48 hours prior to departure to hopefully be able to select a bassinet seat.
A 3 hour wait time, to simply inform QF of my sons name - Hence the love hate relationship I have with Qantas.
