Excellent post. I've often wondered how carriers get names like LOT, Ryanair, Delta, Malev, Fly Niki, Hapag-Lloyd, KLM, TAM and, most of all, Virgin Atlantic (another of Richard Branson's puerile attempts at humor, perhaps?).

Any thoughts?
