Usually, although not always, the BC car will be on the rear of the train. Occasionaly you'll find it at the front, although that's pretty rare, but you'll never find it in the middle of the train.

Since coach passengers are not allowed to walk though the BC car, Amtrak never puts it in the middle, since that would force people to walk through the car.
