If taking the E Train from Jamaica, my vote would be to get off at the 50th St station and not deal with the more crowded (and skanky) 42nd St/PABT station; it's a short four blocks to the OP's hotel. I find that Google maps is very accurate and helpful for NY Transit options along with the Citymapper app.
Maybe by then the rideshare rates will have stabilized, but right now, qoutes of $20 to $40 over the taxi flat rate aren't uncommon.
