Later, I took a walk around the block (Kuhio + Seaside to Kalakaua, to the Hyatt Regency, and then back up to Kuhio and to Seaside).
Normally, stores are open till 11PM, and people are milling around until around midnight. Now all the stores are closed, and the streets are nearly empty before 11PM. I think this happened once before, after the Japanese economy crashed and Japanese tourists couldn't afford to go to Hawaii. Everything closed at 10PM then.

This go-round, it is really eerie and sad. I hope things get back to normal this summer after the vaccine passports are approved, and Honolulu goes to Tier 4.
You think the Waikiki streets are quiet now? Here's the intersection of Kalakaua Avenue and Ka'ilulani Avenue at 9:30am on November 20th, 2020.
