Indeed. And if it were really necessary full reverse thrust would have also been deployed. That seems to be a rarity these days in UK/Europe. Always noticed it seemed to be favoured as SOP by more carriers in the US.

I guess you'll only know whether too much braking has been applied when the gear sheers off and you keep sliding down the runway.... Airplane style!
