Correct, with the caveat that you noted.
That said, I should point out that you can use KrisFlyer miles for travel on UA, if UA has opened those flights to partner programs. (Reasonably common in economy, quite rare in business). So if the purpose of transferring the miles was to fly UA, that might not be necessary.
