This matches my experience. I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Ventura, CA, 3-4 times because it was convenient for events I was attending. The first time I had a friend staying with me, and I'd reserved it on points. She was really appreciative, but when we drove up, her comment was something like "Huh. I expected it to be a little nicer." I think IHG sets the bar too high with the fancy-sounding Crowne Plaza moniker.
