We have to book all travel through AMEX Travel. They keep a record of unused tickets and will apply the value to the next ticket with a change fee. I had an odd ball ticket that I didn't end up using on an airline that I don't regularly fly and AMEX finally called when the 1YR date was approaching and asked what I wanted to do. I told them I didn't really care and flying on that airline was not in my near future travel plans. They then assigned the value of the ticket to the recruiting budget. I had already charged my client for the original value of the ticket so I wasn't personaly out any money.
