Airlines are still losing lots of money with a lot of empty planes, and food service is a natural thing to cut.
The greater danger to FT'ers who love business class food and want to fly US carriers is that we may come back with far less business travel because people have gotten used to zooming. If that happens, you are never going to see a restoration of the pre-COVID level of international business class service, because that service was paid for by travelers using OPM.
We may end up in a place where the only high end international business class service is offered by subsidized foreign flag carriers.
You should worry about THAT scenario far more than what UA serves during a pandemic. (I'm flying to Hawaii and looking forward to my comfy Polaris seat later today.
