Every credit card I have (other than the TD one) has the chip on the left hand side and the magnetic strip would be on the top if you insert it face up. . For some strange reason the TD card has the chip on the right hand side....so when you insert in face up into the reader it is in the wrong position (as far as the reader is concerned) and the magnetic strip is on the bottom.

No idea why they did it that way.
The relationship between the magstripe position and chip position is NOT different between the new TD cards and any other credit card. Only the printing is rotated. If it is inserted with the chip in the correct position (ignoring the printing) then the magstripe will also be in the correct position.
