Quick question as I've had different responses to this. The Gold perk of using double Avios to release a seat, on both occasions I've done this I've been charged the maximum amount of Avios (18,500 for a band 1 ET short haul) as they claim they can only use the 9,250 + £0.5 redemption value. I have been told I can request to pay more cash and reduce the Avios amount to the usual £17.50 / 4,750 RFS - but have been told no on the GGL line on both occasions, so what is the correct answer and if it is No.2 - how can I get the GGL agent to amend the amount of Avios they have deducted?
