Al Safwa Sleeping Rooms
I used one of these yesterday (May 19) so I thought I would go over the process.
The lounge itself was still closed. There was barrier tape across the escalators to the lounge and the elevator wouldn't go to that floor. So I went to Al Mourjan and asked at the reception desk about availability of the sleeping rooms. They said I could ask for one anytime. I guess very few people outside of Flyertalk know about these being available.
So after a few eats and drinks in Mourjan I went back to the reception desk. One of the staff escorted me over to Safwa and got the elevator to go up to the lounge level. I was given a 6-hour time limit in the room. Any extension would incur some charge. I forgot to ask how much. They can give you a wakeup call so you don't oversleep your six hours or your flight. Actually it's a wakeup knock on the door since there's no phone in the room. There is a speaker for announcements, which jolted me out of bed for a fire drill halfway through the 6 hours. But they didn't use the speaker for the wakeup call.
All in all it was a welcome chance for some private sleep time after 2 fairly long flights (BOG-MAD-DOH) and then having a 14-hour layover before the flight to DMM. All this without having to fork over $300 for the airport hotel. On the way to and from the sleeping rooms I had a casual look at a lot of the rest of the lounge. It looks like it's ready to open anytime. There was a guy puttering around the bar area looking like he was getting things ready.
