So surprise thing for me today. Was the morning I was flying out of the US for South Africa and was supposed to check into Victoria Falls River Lodge on the 25th. My travel agent emailed and said that:
Victoria Falls Island Lodge has emailed me. Zimbabwe implemented a rule that you cannot be transferred from Livingstone to a Vic Falls Hotel/Lodge & stay. They do allow a transfer from Livingstone to Vic Falls Airport as that is considered in transit so you will still be able to fly out of Vic Falls to Cape Town.
Vic Falls Island Lodge advised that the government will make a decision on Friday whether they will open the land borders
so our choice was book a helicopter from LVI to VFA (at about $3000US) or re-book in Zambia instead. So now we will be staying at the Thorntree River Lodge on Zambia side. Won’t have out starbed island treehouse anymore that I was so looking forward to.
can’t really figure out what the reason would be. Some sites say that Zimbabwe is importing ten day quarantine regardless of test results or vaccination but my agent said he hasn’t heard of them actually enforcing that before.
