I have had success in adding my BA number to a booking with AA miles on AA metal (by calling in and asking), but I don't know if this can be done on AA award tickets flown on BA metal. Not the OP's question, but AA will not allow a BA # an AA # to be added to BA award bookings made with Avios on AA metal.
